About
Stop the Bleed® is an initiative to train members of the public in how to stop massive bleed – and save a life.
Unnecessary death resulting from major blood loss happens every day in B.C. where there may be delay in emergency response. Events such as high velocity sporting activities, bus and train collisions, motor vehicle collisions or mass casualty events such as earthquakes or mudslides can result in death within minutes.
Stop the Bleed® is a nation-wide initiative and provincial call to action that will turn bystanders into first responders and increase the survivability of those suffering from massive bleeding before professional help arrives.
Who are we?
Trauma Services BC and The Society of Professionals in Emergency Care (SoPEC) are partnering to provide Stop the Bleed® training. It uses a simple “hands on approach” to proper bleeding control techniques, such as how to apply direct pressure, pack wounds and tourniquet use.
The American College of Surgeons states the any help given by an immediate first responder can make the difference between life and death. Our goal is to provide the tools and education to help empower those responders to do just that.
